A historic moment for the Diocese of Dallas now turns its focus to the future of the Church in the diocese.
From Dec. 1-4, the Diocese of Dallas convened its first synod assembly in 90 years, marking a pivotal moment in the diocese’s 10-year journey of reflection and renewal.
I saw a need for a Diocesan Synod during the historic pandemic, when our pews were empty, our pulpits silent, and our altars were barren. I knew we needed to do something historic to compensate for this pandemic.
The 14th Annual Bishop’s Invitational Golf Tournament welcomed golfers, supporters, and community members to Stonebriar Country Club to once again raise funds for Catholic education in the Diocese of Dallas.
Friends and family gathered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Oct. 5 as Bishop Edward J. Burns celebrated a Mass for the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders for more than 40 men from parishes across the Diocese of Dallas discerning the permanent diaconate.

“My friends, we have work to do.” Those words are how Bishop Edward J. Burns closed a Mass for nearly 300 faithful who gathered Sept. 14 at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe for a Mass to be commissioned as delegates for the Diocese of Dallas Synod assembly later this year.
Members across the aviation industry gathered on Sept. 14 for the Diocese of Dallas’ inaugural Aviation Mass. The Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Edward J. Burns and Auxiliary Bishop Greg Kelly at Christ the King Catholic Church.
They came by fire engine, by police cruiser, by ambulance, by bicycle, by horse, and even by helicopter. On Aug. 3, first responders from throughout the diocese gathered at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the seventh annual Diocese of Dallas Blue Mass and Blessing of the Fleet.

Burns at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe as well as a Mass of Consecration to the Order of Virgins for Karen Bless, a campus minister at the University of Dallas, and the diocesan delegation’s trip to the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis.
