Longtime caregiver shares story of service

As a retired hospice nurse, Mary Ellen Pereyra cannot count the number of hands she held and prayers she lifted, not only for the injured and ill patients that came to her for care but also for an often-overlooked group: the caregivers. From filling medications to scheduling appointments, the work of caregivers is crucial but often hidden, the parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne said — a fact that she, as a longtime caregiver herself, knows personally.

DCYC invites youth to encounter God’s love

‘Buddies’ bring joy, accompaniment to celebration

Nearly 100 guests with special needs, dressed to the nines and beaming with joy, made their way down the red carpet for a Night to Shine celebration at St. Ann Catholic Parish in Coppell on Feb. 13. Welcomed by a whirl of high fives and homemade signs, guests were in for a night of fun and festivity — and their volunteer “buddies,” always by their sides, were ready to dance the night away with them.

The Levinskis give thanks for 73 years of marriage

At a counterintelligence base in Baltimore, a corporal and a private met, fell in love, and got married — all within a matter of months. Now, eight children, 21 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren later, the love story continues for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church parishioners Donald and Joanne Levinski, who have celebrated 73 years of blissful matrimony together.

Father Fry: Lent, training for the soul

When I was in seminary, I decided to do something I had never done before: run a half marathon. I had run a little in high school, but never more than two miles, so I knew this was going to stretch and challenge me. I did the research, got the right shoes, and began training. I ran several times a week at a slow pace, slowly building strength and endurance.
