Father Eugene O’Donnell is a new priest for the Diocese of Dallas. He was ordained along with seven other men as a priest for the diocese on May 20 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen. On July 1, Father O’Donnell began serving as a parochial vicar at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Irving.
As a member of the synod preparatory commission, one of the exciting things I have seen is the synergy between clergy and laity in our diocese. Of course, we are still a pilgrim people, and the data we received from the listening sessions shows the need for further growth. Nonetheless, it has been beautiful, as a priest, to work shoulder to shoulder with so many dedicated lay people and priests on the commission and elsewhere, all of us wanting to try our best to give ourselves away for the good of the Church.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano is hosting its 4th Annual Hope for Honduras 5k, which will take place at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. The event is a fundraiser for POP’s sister parish, La Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes (The Parish of Our Lady of the Mercies), located in El Progreso, Honduras.

A pair of decorated cakes added a celebratory spirit, but for those in attendance, a workman-like demeanor fueled discussions Oct. 21 at a Diocese of Dallas synodal listening session at Cristo Rey Dallas College Preparatory School. The gathering marked the final of 30 listening sessions over nearly two-and-a-half years, planned as part of the preparatory phase of the Diocese of Dallas Synod.
“There’s this suggestion of wide-open space, this blue sky. The sun is shining. There’s movement of the birds. We don’t know where they’re going or where they’ve been, which is part of the story of hope—that it’s ongoing,” said Deborah Boschert, 2023 winner of the The Catholic Foundation Art on the Plaza competition.
Fueled by a volunteer spirit, a growing ministry at Holy Trinity Catholic Church looks to nourish both body and soul. Open three days a week, the Holy Trinity Center food pantry, located on the campus of the Uptown Dallas parish, provides a lifeline to thousands in need in its community each year.
