Though the global situation risks plunging people into pessimism, Christians are called to pursue their vocation of becoming “men and women of hope,” Pope Francis said. “As individuals and as communities, amid the variety of charisms and ministries, all of us are called to embody and communicate the Gospel message of hope in a world marked by epochal challenges,” the pope wrote in his message for World Day of Prayer for Vocations April 21.

It was the first time some of the students had ever seen a nun. A pair of Sister Servants of the Lord visited St. Jude the Apostle Church in Lewes earlier this year to give the religious education students a look at women in habits. They talked about their call to the vocation, how they live and what it’s like to be a nun.
Parishioners from parishes and quasi-parishes throughout the Diocese of Dallas will be honored for their volunteer efforts at the annual Bishop’s Award for Service Mass at 10 a.m. on April 20 at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The special Mass recognizes lay men and women for their volunteer efforts benefiting ministries in the 77 total parish communities in the diocese. The Texas Catholic recently had the opportunity to visit with some of those men and women being honored. This is Tommy Benajmin’s story.
