Women as educators: In the classroom and beyond

Before a child opens a textbook, walks down a school hallway, or puts pencil to paper in a classroom, she has already received an education in the important lessons of life from a woman, said Sister Sandra Helton, SSND, as she welcomed more than 300 registered attendees to the 14th annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch on March 25.

St. Cecilia parishioners walk Camino de Santiago to deepen Lenten devotion

For years, the St. Cecilia Catholic Parish community has prayed the Stations of the Cross inside the church. This Lent, a group of parishioners took that devotion a step further, walking 100 kilometers — an average of about 13 miles a day — over six days in Spain. Their goal: to help make a long-held dream a reality by building an outdoor Stations of the Cross garden at the parish.

Administrators look to celebrate faith, raise funds for school with pilgrimage

A frigid, blustery wind signals the arrival of another cold front, dramatically dropping afternoon temperatures and sending most north Texans looking for the warm confines of their homes. The erratic Texas weather, though, doesn’t deter two St. Cecilia Catholic School administrators from lacing up their walking shoes and setting out for a brisk trek through the Oak Cliff school’s neighborhood on Jan. 19. That’s because with each step, the two women move closer to their goal.
