Antonia Brenner was twice divorced and had raised seven children when she gave up her comfortable life in Southern California to live in a small prison cell in the border city of Tijuana.
Lawyers, former inmates, and leaders of justice reform were among the nearly 140 participants who attended a restorative justice conference rooted in Catholic social teaching.
Those who accompany the incarcerated have said there is a lot to do in ministering to a population that has committed crimes and had to live with the consequences of those actions.
